Wheat Hearts

My dad has taught me that parents want their children to do things on their own if they can. A parent will help their kid only if they need help. That is how a child learns.

Well, my dad didn't quite get that concept when he was younger.

Aaron loved wheat hearts. What are wheat hearts? Well, they don't sell it anymore, but it was a hot cereal that the Loves loved. I mean, absolutely loved. Kind of like cream of wheat but smoother and yummier, it was a family favorite. Aaron's mom--my grandma--would make them hot cereal in the mornings.
One morning, Aaron's mom wanted to teach her son how to make wheat hearts. She knew that he was old enough, and  he could do it if he tried.
But Aaron didn't think he was ready. As soon as his mother told him to make them by himself, Aaron flipped out.
"I can't do it!" was one of the things he repeated over and over again.
For about 5 minutes, Aaron sat at the stove complaining at his mom, when finally she got up and went back to bed. Aaron thought it would be a good idea to try to annoy his mom. He grabbed the 1/2 measuring cup and started banging it against the stove. After about what seemed to be about 30 minutes, Aaron decided that his attempt at bothering her was no good. She just completely ignored him.
Finally, he realized that making wheat hearts is actually easy, and that he could do it on his own.
Grandma Alice Ann was a good mother. That was only one way she taught Aaron to be a responsible young man.

I learned a few things from this story
1. We can do hard things.
2. Be obedient to our parents. They know what's up.
3. I have a wonderful grandma.

Time spent today:
