Aaron was an adventurous boy at heart. He loved physical, vigorous activity. One day, Aaron and his friends, Brad and Bryan, were playing outside and noticed that there was a garden of overripe tomatoes that had not been harvested. At some point all the tomato plants were picked up and dumped on the curb to be picked up by the garbage truck. Aaron and his friends had a brilliant-or so they thought-idea.
"These tomatoes are too ripe to eat."
"These tomatoes are too ripe to eat."
"They are basically good for nothing that tomatoes are usually good for."
They began to grab a hold of their plan. After dark, they'd gather all the tomatoes and hide behind the bushes. When a car would drive by, they'd throw the tomatoes and try to hit it. It was a fantastic plan.
When night came, the boys set up shop in from of Aaron's house.
The first car drove by, and smack! The tomato thumped the car and squashed flat, the rotten juice oozing out and dripping down the car.
The second car came along, and the same thing happened.
Finally, the third car came trudging by. Slow, slow, slow. It was the easiest target yet! The boys easily nailed it about seven times. They were so proud of their accomplishment. But pride turned to dread as the car slammed on its brakes.
The friends booked it behind the house and ran into the basement. They didn't want to be caught! A minute later, they heard a knock at the front door.
The only thing my Dad remembers is the man--about 20 years old at the time--coming in the house and yelling at him. Giving him a piece of his mind.
The moral of the story is that you should never do things just to be funny, if it means that you damage someone else or their property.
Aaron learned this lesson the hard way, but he learned it. He never did that again!
